The Marina is one of the most scenic and user-friendly neighborhoods in the
city, located between Van Ness Avenue, the Presidio and Lombard Street. The
neighborhood has spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and
the Bay. The area was once marshland, but was filled in for the 1915 Pan
Pacific International Exposition. The Palace of Fine Arts, home of the
Exploratorium, remains from the Exposition.
In addition to the natural beauties of its views and open spaces, the
Marina has Chestnut Street… considered to be the epicenter of activity
for San Francisco's young, affluent shoppers and diners. Fort Mason houses
a variety of non profit organizations, including San Francisco Craft and
Folk Art Museum, Magic Theatre and Mexican Museum.
